Polyamide occurs naturally in fibers like silk and wool and is also made artifically. Nylon is a synthetic polyamide.
Polyamides are often added to textiles to make them stronger and more durable without compromising their softness.
I always use yarns that are made primarily of natural materials, but I will sometimes use a nice yarn that has some nylon included for strength.
